1300 – 25 July 1368) was a French physician and surgeon who wrote a lengthy and influential treatise on surgery in Latin, titled Chirurgia Magna. It was translated into many other languages (including Middle English circa 1425) and widely read by physicians in late medieval Europe. Guy de Chauliac (c1300–1368) trained in Toulouse and the University of Montpellier from where he achieved the highest possible degree of Master of medicine. He undertook fellowships in Bologna (anatomical dissection) and Paris (surgery) and was qualified as a physician not a Barber Surgeon.

[2] Guy de Chauliac (c. 1300-68) is probably the best known surgeon of the medieval period. Worth certainly thought highly of him for he not only owned a 1537 Lyon edition of his Chirurgica Magna , a 1546 Venetian edition, and a much later French translation, La grande chirurgie de maistre Guy de Chauliac (Paris, 1683), but also a book about him, written in 1696.
